Mỗi năm khi nắng đọng đầu hè

Lung linh hoa khế ươm nụ khoe

Tóc ai thoang thoảng mùi chùm kết

Giếng vắng quay đi dáng rụt rè

Ngày ấy trinh nguyên tuổi học trò

Em tôi áo trắng chẳng buồn lo

Hai nhà chung vách đâu cần hẹn

Lối nhỏ gặp nhau cứ thẹn thò

Ngày ấy lòng tôi hay ngỡ ngàng

Bao mùa hoa nắng mới lại sang

Rồi thầm hoa khế dệt thành mộng

Trăng thắm bên nhau tôi với nàng

Cũng mùa nắng ấy tôi ra đi

Kịp nâng chén rượu tiển vu quy

Xác hồng hoa khế vương thành giếng

Nhạc cưới đưa tôi biệt kinh kỳ

Áo chiến sờn vai nay trở về

Xóm buồn lối cũ rảo bước lê

Ngó quanh chỉ thấy là xa lạ

Hoa khế bao mùa biệt bến quê

Chốn cũ năm xưa người về đâu   ?

Nắng vàng giờ đã trở canh sầu

Tôi đi nhặt bóng tìm hoa khế

Có nắng chiều ru mộng ước đầu    ./

STAR FLOWER BY THE WELL

Every year when the sun is at the early summer

Sparkling star flowers blossom

Someone’s hair has smell of locust tree

She goes away by the well quietly

The original time of tender schooling those days

My love in white shirt has no worries

Our houses share the wall so we don’t need to have rendezvous

The narrow path we are just so timid

I was always shy those days

Many flowers of sunshine time come and go

I wished quietly the star flowers would be our completed love

The bright moon for us to be together

And then I had to go

I just had a quick wedding

The star flowers are by the well

Wedding songs play farewell for me

I come back here now with worn out soldier’s clothes

I walk around the sad hamlet

Looking around and seeing only the strangers

The star flowers go somewhere

The old place, where is the old lover

The golden sunshine turns blue

I search to pick up the star flowers

There is the sunshine to sing lullabies for my first love
